Poem, 2020Maybe it was poison
Here she was, drinking it up
The label said passion
It was so, so sweet
What could have been her weapon
became her reason for living
You know what’s funny
is the more it let her feel alive,
the more she realized
all these years she was drowning herself in the sweetness of it
couldn’t run without inhaling a dose of it
until all that was left was the aftertaste of her lies
Every high
was an injection of bitter deception
that left her to die
